Sign up now for WordCamp Portland!

WordCamp Portland is right around the corner and would love to have you attend.

This year, it’s happening on Saturday, August 18th, at Norse Hall in Northeast Portland. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased now. Sign up to volunteer and receive a $10 discount.

It’ll be a day filled with speakers and networking for everyone from users to writers to business owners to designers to developers. I’m on the speaker selection committee this year and can safely say we have an awesome lineup — maybe even better than WordCamp San Francisco🙂

    August 22 Re-Cap

Thank you to all who attended the August meeting!

For more information about WordCamp Portland (and tickets), visit http://wordcampportland.org. They’re especially looking for volunteers and sponsors right now. You can also follow WordCamp Portland on Twitter.

Thank you to Benjamin Kerensa for talking with us about O’Reilly Media’s user group program and Ubuntu Oregon (we also have video of this portion of the meeting). I’ve submitted a group application for the user group program, and will hopefully have more to share by the next meeting.

We’re currently looking for speakers and meeting topics for upcoming meetings. If you have ideas or leads, you can either leave them in the comments here or on the Meetup.com discussion board.

    Thank you, and Happy WordPressing!

I still feel like I’m new at WordPress and would like to have a discussion about best WordPress practices, both designers and developers. Those insights that keep you from wanting to drive over your keyboard and then back-up to smash it again.

I’m not sure that the urge to destroy peripherals ever completely disappears🙂

Kathleen, you are a rock star for all the hard work you’ve done in helping to get this group rockin’ and rollin’. Thank you so much for everything you do for us.

Another link to add to resources is the much requested article on WordPress Tips: Exploring the WordPress Text Widget. It was requested at the previous meeting as well as this one and I just made time to finish it. Thanks to everyone for the inspiration and kick in the butt to get it done.

Hi, I’m a local website designer/developer who has been working primarily with WordPress over the last few years. I am interested in teaching some courses about best WordPress practices, customizing a WP site, use of plugins, etc… for the non-techie WP user. I stumbled across this site while doing some research and thought someone on here might have some feedback for me.

    June Meeting Recap

We had a great turnout and a great space for our June meeting at the Open Source Bridge conference.  Thank you to Audrey Eschright for arranging our session!

We announced our poll to decide on a date for the July meeting, since we didn’t want to meet the same night as Ignite Portland. Several people did take time to vote, and the meeting was later set for Thursday, July 23, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Webtrends.

Aaron Hockley gave us an update on WordCamp Portland (September 19-20 at Webtrends). What WordCamp Portland needs most right now are sponsors! ¾ of event costs last year were covered by sponsors, which keeps event costs low.  Financial or in-kind sponsorships are welcome.  Contact @ahockley or @dalechumbley if you would like to be a sponsor or have leads for sponsors. For WordCamp Portland updates, subscribe to the WordCamp Portland blog or follow @wordcampdx on Twitter.

We then discussed the recent WordPress 2.8 release (see WordPress 2.8 Overview for an outline).

As noted above, next meeting 7/23 at 6:00 p.m. at Webtrends, 851 SW 6th Avenue, Suite 1600. Hope to see you there!

    July Meeting Date/Place

The third Thursday in July (July 16th) is also the date of Ignite Portland 6, so we will NOT be meeting then.  Instead, we will meet on Thursday, July 23 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

We also have a new meeting location! CubeSpace, sadly, has now closed, so from now on our monthly meetings will be held at Webtrends, 851 SW 6th Avenue, Suite 1600.  Webtrends will also be the site of WordCamp Portland in September.

We’ll post an agenda for the July meeting later, as soon as it’s confirmed.
